The Cart and Checkout team is looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to drive the end-to-end development of Wolt's consumer experience across apps and web, from frontend to backend, building both consumer features and services.
The team has over 10 engineers and several embedded collaborators: product lead, designer, QA and data analyst. Together, we build features used by more than 40M users in 31 countries. Some of the features we have released are: Double Order, Group Orders, Order Tracking and of course, optimizations and maintenance of the cart and the checkout screens while also developing and maintaining one of the critical services of the Wolt platform.
Cart and Checkout is at the center of the consumer group, most of our projects require cross team or cross group collaboration with Merchant or Courier, for example. Therefore, effective communication and ability to make quick decisions are 2 of the must have for this position.
We work closely with our stakeholders, including our C level management and therefore, stakeholders management and impeccable communication is also a must have.
In this role, you will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will be part of the order experience subgroup consisting of 3 teams working in Helsinki and Berlin.
This role is primarily looking for someone who is based in or willing to relocate to our tech hub in Helsinki.
What you’ll be doing
- As an engineering leader, you own the results of your team and work closely with Product Management and Operations teams in ensuring successful development and releases of the new consumer features. You make sure business partners, tech support specialists and support associates have detailed documentation with the information about how to use the new features about to be released.
- You excel at cross functional Collaboration. You have experience collaborating fluently with other Engineering teams and Engineering Team Leads as well as stakeholders of all levels from Product, Business and Data to ensure successful delivery of your product.
- You will be working on some of the most central parts of our technical ecosystem and you have the skills and experience to ensure quality, reliability and stability of your team’s deliveries, ensuring customer up-time and safety.
- As the leader of the team, you inspire, facilitate and enable the team to do what they do best. You have experience in all levels of team leadership, from the low level stuff like running the development cycle, providing insight on technical solutions, and solving day to day problems for the team. You also have experience as a mentor and coach. You support engineering growth, you hold regular 1:1s, helping engineers to set and achieve impactful goals and prioritize the time of your team members over the churn of an often full calendar.
- You know how to challenge and keep your team accountable to audacious goals, while also providing a support network for people to feel safe failing and learning in their growth journey. You provide actionable and insightful feedback for the team, tied to your own personal experience and anecdotes to provide context and grounding.
- You also know how to operate on a high level as the face of your team. You understand how to take the raw estimates and timelines of team projects and build a crisp and clear narrative about your team for leadership. You facilitate alignment on expectations, timelines, and trade-offs, ensuring leadership and partners are aligned with your team’s work. You communicate to your stakeholders in the language that they understand, whether that be design, product, engineering leadership, or business partners. Your experience inspires and enables the team. You lead with confidence, guiding your team through technical challenges while fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture. You drive the roadmap, technological strategy and make sure you remove blockers fast and effectively.

- Senior Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading a product engineering team, providing guidance, and fostering a high-performance culture.Technical expertise: Software of System engineering knowledge, SDLC, processes, resources management.
- Experience working with agile methodologies, working in iterations and MVP to quickly test the team progress in production and minimize the time invested in the projects.
- Coding experience: understanding how software is built is crucial. Occasionally supporting the team in hands-on tasks on testing, software development or SRE is expected.
- Technical Leadership & Communication: Ability to build shared understanding among stakeholders, align teams, and foster collaboration to deliver impactful consumer experiences.
- Decision-Making in Ambiguity: Comfortable navigating uncertainty and making high-impact decisions in dynamic environments.
- Talent Development: Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers while fostering a culture of learning, growth, and continuous improvement in technical excellence.
- Ability to successfully work with Engineers of all tech stacks: Backend, Android, iOS and Frontend.
- Technical Expertise: We are thrilled if you bring technical expertise. Ability to lead the work on mobile, backend and web is a must. Experience with microservices architecture, and cloud computing services such as AWS is valued.
- Hands-On Leadership: Lead by example, actively engaging in commercial, product development and technical discussions and setting a high standard for quality within your team.
- Collaboration and communication: the position requires iterating with technical and non technical stakeholders, therefore great communication and understanding of requirements gathering is important.
- Experienced in big tech organizations and international environments. We have more than 60 nationalities in our product+ team!
- People management experiences: at Wolt, team leaders are the first HR point of contact, we pay special attention to work life balance and weekly workload.
- Industry Experience: previous experience on consumer application domains and high scale environments
