We are now looking to strengthen our Legal team with a Legal Counsel to focus on supporting Wolt’s expansion to new countries together with other responsibilities in the team. 

We’re looking for someone who’s not afraid of digging into different kinds of legal issues and understands the Wolt way of doing things – a problem solver and a solution-oriented business enabler. Having great project management skills is a must for this role as you will be coordinating legal advice across a wide range of legal topics with the support from local law firms and ensuring that things move forward at the right pace in the right order to help Wolt build compliant business operations from scratch in new countries. You will play a key role in implementing the fresh legal advice into our operations and giving support to all the other teams working on opening a new country ranging from expansion and finance to product and local teams including supporting them with day-to-day legal and commercial questions and business negotiations. You will also work very closely with many of our legal team members who focus on specific legal areas making sure we have our amazing legal experts a say when it comes to specific questions. 

Depending on how busy we are building new business operations in new countries, you may also be given additional responsibility areas as the business needs and the team continue to evolve. The regulation concerning our industry is changing rapidly and we need more hands on deck to help us navigate it as we scale. Our ideal candidate is someone who is curious and eager to learn and wants to be part of creating something new. They are flexible, dynamic and proactively get things done. We also appreciate quick thinking and a can-do attitude of rolling up one’s sleeves and getting to work, no matter the task. We expect you to already have some work experience from working in an international setting on various legal areas.

We’re primarily looking for the person to join our team at our offices in Helsinki, however other key Wolt locations are also possible if our dream candidate is based elsewhere.

What You’ll Be Doing

• As Wolt’s Legal Counsel focusing on expansion, you’ll support our expansion and other teams working on opening a new country with both strategic questions as well as day-to-day legal matters. 

• You will coordinate legal advice from local law firms and ensure that things move forward fast enough and in the right order. 

• You’ll play a key role in implementing legal advice into our operations ensuring that we build compliant business operations from scratch. 

• You will build new processes around expansion that help us scale our legal advice to the organization. 

• You may also be given additional responsibilities within the Legal team depending on how busy we are working on expansion. 

• Assessing and managing risks while supporting the business.

• Proactively identifying areas for improvement and finding solutions.

Our humble expectations

• 3-5 years of legal experience as an in-house counsel and/or from a law firm in an international setting. 

• Master of Laws degree from a reputable university in the EU. An additional LL.M. degree from the US or another country is a plus, but not a requirement.

• Interest in taking on a generalist legal role with a broad range of tasks.

• Experience in working in close cooperation with internal and external legal teams and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent project management skills, commercial mindset, generalist skills and strong expertise with a solutions-driven can-do attitude are an absolute must.

• Our ideal candidate has a deeper knowledge in some legal fields relevant to our business, e.g. general contract law, corporate, e-commerce, consumer protection or some regulatory questions.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• The type of person who rolls up their sleeves and gets to work.

• Fluency in English. 

• Willingness to travel.
