About Wolt
At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.
Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.
Wolt is looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Consumer Order Experience group to support the engineering teams that are responsible for delivering our consumer experience from browsing the venue selection, building an order, checking out, and tracking the order until delivery. The group consists of several end-to-end teams that are instrumental in developing key product features, ensuring the services are developed at speed taking into account best engineering principles to ensure they are maintainable, scalable and meeting the high reliability bar we expect in Wolt.
In this team you will be responsible for primarily driving the future of our backend services in the consumer order experience space delivering exciting new product features that will reach millions of end users. Working closely with the development teams you will also be liaising with our product leads to analyse and estimate the engineering effort to deliver such groundbreaking features.
Not only this you will be working with an amazing group of developers of differing seniorities, with the opportunity to learn from and mentor others in best engineering practices and design of complex backend services.
To succeed in this role you must embrace the following areas:
-
Ownership of the order experience backend services architecture now and in the future, this includes several high priority services to keep our service running smoothly at scale
-
Facilitating, coordinating and prioritising the product roadmap in the group from an engineering perspective, working closely with our skillful product and team leads to analyse the engineering effort required to deliver in a timely manner
-
Planning the engineering roadmap to ensure the services are scalable and maintainable, bringing topics such as architectural changes, automated testing and addressing technical debt to the teams roadmaps
-
Participate and help technically coordinate large cross team business critical projects from concept to end-user roll out
-
Share knowledge, promote best-practices and mentor backend engineers across Wolt engineering teams especially in the Consumer group
This position will report to the Director/Head of Engineering for the Order Experience group, working with them to align across the group and with other engineering teams in Wolt.
Our humble expectations
As one of the more senior engineers in Wolt we expect you to have many years of experience in building world class backend services at scale preferably with prior experience at staff level. Primarily using Python and Kotlin to build the services you should have hands-on experience with these languages and a strong willingness to learn new technologies moving forward. Working knowledge of MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes and Kafka are also expected as these are widely used within Wolt. Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog, Sentry and analytics tools like Snowflake and Looker will be considered a plus.
Along with deep technical experience we expect you to be a strong communicator with a product-oriented mindset as collaborating with peers, team members and product managers is key to the role's success.
Whilst driving the vision and the future architecture you will also be expected to dive into the codebase, review code and when needed help with implementation.
