About Wolt
At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.
Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.
At Wolt, Logistics is more than just a backend operation – it's a core part of our customer promise. Done well, it means fast, reliable deliveries and delighted customers. When not done well, it can cause delays and inefficiencies. The difference lies in the technology - and that's where you come in.
Our logistics platform is fully automated, with our route optimization system at the heart of it all. This system computes optimal paths for every courier partner, balancing efficiency, accuracy, and real-world constraints as they hop between venues and customers.
The Logistics domain spans a wide range of technical challenges, including route optimization, traffic flow prediction, delivery time estimation, and supply/demand balancing. Our stack reflects this diversity: we use C++, Scala, and Go in our backend services, while data analysis and machine learning is primarily done in Python.
We’re now looking for a C++ developer to join the Logistics Assignments team – a specialized group of C++ algorithm engineers, operations researchers, and data scientists dedicated to solving one of Wolt’s most complex and impactful technical challenges.
At the core of our work is our in-house route optimizer, written entirely in modern C++. This engine processes real-time delivery data and courier positions to generate the most efficient delivery plans across our cities. It’s also responsible for generating our final delivery time estimates, which are critical to both customer experience and marketplace balance.
Because our cities are large and dynamic, performance and efficiency are everything. The faster and smarter our optimizer runs, the more scenarios we can explore in real-time and every second we save directly contributes to improved efficiency and better delivery outcomes.
For this role, you can be based either in Helsinki or work remotely from anywhere within Finland.
Our humble expectations:
- Having in-depth experience with C++, along with a strong interest in or experience working with the latest C++ standards (C++23)
- Experience in creating high-performance code, profiling, optimization and understanding of memory management.
- Experience in multi-threaded and asynchronous programming.
- Understanding the importance of code quality and testing.
- Analytical and curious thinking, self starter with a drive to get things done
- Good communications skills
Experience in the technologies is highly desired but not mandatory:
- Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
- Experience in Python, Scala, or Go
Next steps:
If you’re passionate about building high-performance systems, enjoy solving deeply complex optimization problems, and want your work to have a direct impact on millions of deliveries, we’d love to talk.
Join us for an exciting journey! This position will be filled as soon as we find the right person, so make sure to apply as soon as you realize you really, really want to join us!
