We are looking to strengthen our Legal team with a Senior Legal Counsel with focus on product counseling together with other responsibilities in the team. As a Senior Legal Counsel for courier products, you’ll have a broad range of responsibilities, providing legal guidance on all product and operations initiatives related to the independent contractors providing delivery services on Wolt’s platform. You will serve as the main legal advisor to many of the teams who build innovative features, products, and services relating to the couriers, such as the product managers and and engineers who are responsible for the Wolt Courier app. and the global team managing the quality and efficiency of the Wolt delivery operations. Your internal clients will also include strategy and operations teams responsible for optimizing the Wolt marketplace and building new businesses, Trust & Safety team ensuring the marketplace is secure and the policy team advocating for the future rules for platform work. You will also work closely with many of our legal team members who focus on specific legal areas, especially other employment counsels dedicated to courier compliance.
We’re looking for someone who’s not afraid of digging into different kinds of legal issues and understands the Wolt way of doing things – a problem solver and a solution-oriented business enabler. The regulation in our space is evolving globally and becoming more challenging to navigate and manage as we scale, and your mission is to ensure that from a courier product point of view our growth is sustainable. Thus, we truly want you to be an expert in employment law with existing experience from product counseling or genuine interest in becoming the go-to person for any product related questions. You’ll become an expert on our existing products and will help shape the development of new products, features, and operating models in an ever-changing legal and policy landscape. You should also be curious and eager to learn more about platform work and being part of creating something new.
We’re primarily looking for the person to join our team at our offices in Helsinki, however other key Wolt locations can also be considered if our dream candidate is based elsewhere.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide solution-oriented advice and legal direction to a wide variety of teams from the initial stages of product development to launch.
Collaborate with business partners to effectively manage legal risks related to product, operational, and engineering initiatives.
Provide product, engineering and global operations teams with pragmatic and actionable day-to-day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.
Serve as the lead legal counsel for many key courier products and initiatives by advising on laws and regulations relating to reclassification and privacy, but also in collaboration with other legal team members on payments, marketing, consumer protection and more.
Serve as liaison between your business clients and relevant other experts where needed (such as trust & safety and public policy teams).
Build playbooks and establish processes to help scale our advice as a legal team, e.g. by synthesizing input from outside counsel, your own research, and feedback from internal stakeholders.
Our humble expectations
7+ years of legal experience as an in-house counsel and/or from a law firm in an international setting.
Master of Laws degree from Finland or a reputable university in the EU.
You have a business-first mentality, strong legal judgment, and the ability to make decisions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment with imperfect information.
Solutions-driven can-do attitude is an absolute must.
You are skilled at managing a high volume of requests from a wide range of client teams and balancing competing priorities with limited direction.
Understand complicated areas of law and apply them to a complex business.
You have a philosophy that no task is too big or small and an interest in learning and growth - you are a person who rolls up their sleeves and gets to work, no matter the task.
You are a self-starter; you’re intrinsically motivated but also a good, collaborative teammate.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Fluent in English.
Previous product counseling experience and/or experience in the tech industry or the on-demand economy is a plus.
