About Wolt

At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.

Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.

Role background

At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now, we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything through our local commerce platform connecting customers, courier partners and local businesses in 29 countries globally. To make this possible, Wolt develops a wide range of technologies, from logistics and retail software to financial solutions and autonomous delivery, and even operates its own grocery stores under the Wolt Market Brand. Since kicking off Wolt’s retail journey, we’ve partnered with thousands of non-restaurant businesses, from grocery giants to local convenience stores, pet shops, pharmacies, electronics, beauty brands and more.

As our business grows, the regulatory landscape becomes more challenging to navigate. To keep up with the ever-evolving business needs, we are now on the lookout for a Legal Counsel with a regulatory focus to strengthen Wolt’s Global Legal team.

You’ll be joining a small but mighty team of three lawyers within the broader Global Legal team, responsible for legal matters in Wolt’s newer business lines, such as New Verticals, Wolt for Work, Ads, Self-Delivery, and much more that’s brewing beneath the surface. In this role, you’ll get to take ownership of regulatory topics relevant to these businesses, including advising on regulatory compliance for different product verticals sold on the Wolt platform, analyzing and guiding the implementation of EU legislation applicable to platforms and e-commerce, and advising on regulatory aspects in connection with product launches. You’ll work with regional and global commercial teams, Product teams, and the Trust and Safety and Public Policy teams, providing proactive legal advice with a problem-solving mindset. You’ll also collaborate closely with other members of the Global Legal team.

Our ideal candidate is not only an expert in legal matters but also curious, eager to learn, and excited to help build something new. This is a new role at Wolt, giving you the opportunity to build processes and shape the role as it evolves. We’re primarily looking for someone to join our team at our HQ in Helsinki. You’ll report to our Director, Legal, New Business Lines.

What you’ll be doing

  • Taking ownership of regulatory compliance for New Verticals and some other emerging business lines and initiatives. For example, if someone asks about the legal requirements for selling alcohol on Wolt in our operating countries, you’ll have the answer.
  • Conducting regulatory research both independently and in collaboration with external law firms.
  • Assessing and managing regulatory compliance risks while providing your stakeholders with actionable day-to-day and strategic advice.
  • Creating and maintaining guidelines and playbooks on applicable legislation and requirements, as well as organizing training sessions on these same topics.
  • In addition to taking ownership of the relevant regulatory landscape, you’ll be supporting senior lawyers with legal research and regulatory input on their projects within New Verticals and other emerging business lines.

Our humble expectations

  • 3+ years of professional experience from the legal field in an international setting. In-house experience is considered an advantage.
  • Master of Laws degree from a reputable university in the EU.
  • Expertise in at least some of the legal areas relevant to our business and this role, including e-commerce, consumer protection, product safety, logistics, pharmaceuticals and age-restricted or highly regulated consumer goods.
  • Previous professional exposure to digital platforms, mobile apps or software solutions.
  • Interest in taking on a generalist legal role with a broad range of tasks but with a strong regulatory focus.
  • A business-first mindset and the ability to provide legal advice in a fast-paced environment with imperfect information.
  • A self-starter who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves no matter the task.
  • Fluency in English, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
