We are looking for Senior Backend Engineers to join our Payments Tooling team, to build a world-class payment infrastructure. As Wolt operates internationally in over 23 countries and over 200 cities, these teams are in a vital spot for e.g. enabling a smooth payment experience for our +10 million customers and ensuring stable, safe and error-proof money flows. The Payments Group at Wolt consists of 3 teams out of which the Payments Tooling team owns the consumer payments' back-office and focuses on many qualitative aspects of consumer payments at Wolt. This means, among other things, mitigating fraud across the countries we operate in, ensuring observability and robustness of our payments solutions, improving the lives of our operations through our internal tooling, and maximizing our services' availability to our customers.

As the business is 24/7 so must our services be. We have a lot of highly challenging engineering topics for seasoned seniors - event-driven, asynchronous service design, blitzscaling business requirements and a strong emphasis on automation.

This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Stockholm, Helsinki or Berlin, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Read more about our remote setup here.

We are building our services in Kotlin and Python. We are looking for the ability to develop production-level microservices in Kotlin (Spring Boot, ktor) or Python (FastAPI, Flask) from the get-go and willingness to learn the other side as well. Any skills and willingness to touch frontend development with TypeScript and React from time to time is considered as a plus.

Our Engineers have wide responsibilities over the whole development lifecycle so knowledge of tools such as PostgreSQL, Docker, K8 and AWS will become handy. We are looking for engineers who can solve problems together, think about big problems such as scalability and availability and sometimes go against the current to also challenge the common decision. Understanding Fintech & Payments will help you succeed, but please don’t let it get in the way if it’s a new area for you -  we’re sure you’d get a grasp of things quickly once you start!
