Wolt is looking for a Backend Engineer to the Consumer Pricing team. For this team, you will be working in an end-to-end team together with the Team Lead, Designer, Backend Engineers and Product Lead. We are enabling a new chapter at Wolt, building tooling to support our operation teams to run pricing experimentations smoothly and finding ways that this information can be digested better to take advantage of moving the company forward. We are currently in the process of moving a lot of code from our old Python codebase to Kotlin so there's a chance to code on both languages, but on the long term, our technology of choice is Kotlin for the brand new services we have. So a lot of room for ideas into this new service.

The Consumer Pricing Team is part of the Consumer Product Group and is responsible for handling pricing calculations that consumers see in our both web and mobile apps from the discovery of venues to checking out and seeing the price breakdowns before users pay for the purchase. We are currently a humble team in size, but with great ambition soon aiming to be one of the key pillars of the company, not just on everything pricing related that is shown to consumers, but also on how operations can leverage these calculations using different pricing models that might help Wolt to succeed. Thus, the business impact here of building something great together is big! On the coding side we have a strong focus on quality like making sure tests are part of the Pull Requests and scalability making sure you consider how the decisions made would be good now and in the future.

Autonomy is also one of our core values so we have expecations that you are able to proactively contribute to our exciting challenges around architecture, discussing with other engineers within other teams that will be co-owning the platform with us, writing technical proposals, and making sure things are moving forward. Still, "team work makes dreams to work", so you are not expected to be alone here as there's a team you should count on all the time to validate things with you, but overall good product ownership is expected. Last but not least, we deliver core business features with a user-centric approach to building great experiences. We expect that you have a passion for keeping our amazing and delightful user experience in check. You will work closely with our group's Staff Engineers at first to get up to speed on our internal tooling and architecture.

This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki or Stockholm or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden and Estonia. Read more about our remote setup here. 🌍

Hands-on: We are looking for people who have extensive experience building high-quality software. This can include working with Apps, APIs and integrations, handling the whole development cycle all the way to production. Having said that, seniority at Wolt is measured by skills, not the number of years on your CV.

Skilled: We want you to be primarly proficient with Kotlin on the backend as it's the language from our new service. However, the ability to read and make small contributions in Python code since we are moving away from it is also expected as secondary skill. We find expertise in other JVM backend languages like Java and Scala genuinely relevant as a starting off point for learning Kotlin. Technologies such as AWS, Mongo, Kafka, gRPC, Kubernetes and others are a bonus.
