We are looking for a Head of Engineering to join our Payments group in Israel to lead building a world-class payment infrastructure. As Wolt operates internationally in over 23 countries and over 200 cities, these teams are in a vital spot for e.g. enabling a smooth payment experience for our +10 million customers and ensuring stable, safe and error-proof money flows. The Payments Group at Wolt consists of teams with end to end ownership of Wolt payment platform and solutions. Our mission is to ensure frictionless payments with high availability and risks under control enabling best in class payment experience for our customers in order to support Wolt growth and expansion. This means, among other things, mitigating fraud across the countries we operate in, ensuring observability and robustness of our payments solutions, improving the lives of our operations through our internal tooling, and maximizing our services' availability to our customers.

Our humble expectations
As a Head of Engineering, our humble expectations are to find a true hands-on leader, who takes ownership of engineering in the payments group, doing whatever it takes to help the teams succeed in that domain.. In this role, you will effortlessly switch between tactical and operational levels, from coaching developers to planning long-term objectives together with the respective Head of Product. You have superpowers in recruitment, coordinating cross-team projects and making sure communication between teams flows smoothly. You may act either as a team lead or a โlead of leadsโ, depending on how the group grows.
To succeed in this role, you will bring solid expertise in the field of global payments, familiar in working with PSPs, and have a strong understanding of authorization/capture/settlements and chargebacks. You have demonstrated leadership skills and are at ease working in a multicultural environment.
You will be leading teams developing production-level microservices in Kotlin (Spring Boot, Ktor) or Python (FastAPI, Flask) from the get-go, therefore you must have familiarity with these technologies as well as the entire development lifecycle. Knowledge of tools such as PostgreSQL, Docker, k8s and AWS will become handy as well as tooling around telemetry, alerting and monitoring to cover the SRE aspect of running services at scale.
We are looking for a leader who can solve problems cross-functionally, think about macro challenges such as scalability and availability and often go against the grain in order to challenge the common decision.
