Hey, you look like you might be our new ย Backend Engineer, Venue Experience

Engineering

Estonia, Estoniaย ยท Stockholm, Swedenย ยท Helsinki, Finland

Full-time

We are looking for a Python Backend Engineer to join our Venue Experience team. The team is mainly focused on building a world class retail experience for customers to discover, browse and shop products on Wolt. In order to achieve it we are looking for engineers who will be working on challenging engineering topics such as scaling our system to support thousands of products per venue; improving visibility of the assortment (introducing new ways of structuring it) along with developing modern backward compatible client-facing APIs for our web and mobile apps. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the whole development process, including design, implementation, releasing and taking the whole ownership of our features.

Within the role, you will be working in an autonomous cross-functional team, which includes a product lead, backend engineers, mobile and web engineers, designers and data analysts. As part of our team you will also have a chance to work on complex tasks, which require collaboration with other teams building our Consumer & Merchant platforms.

We have a strong Python community at Wolt (check out our Wolt Tech Talks Youtube channel and our engineering blog) - modern Python (FastAPI, Flask, gRPC, usage of type hints) is our bread and butter. But we are not limited to Python; Wolt has a fantastic sharing and learning culture, and everyone is invited to learn, share best practices and choose the best technology for the job.

New team members are welcome to either of our tech hubs located in Helsinki and Stockholm or you can work entirely remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden and Estonia. You can read more about our remote setup here.

Our humble expectations

We are looking for someone with a strong professional background in building backend services using Python (or similar technologies) and delivering modern, testable and maintainable code. If you happen to have experience also with Kotlin that would be great but not essential.

In addition, we expect high emotional intelligence, a willingness to take ownership beyond the obvious, motivation to learn new things and to teach others, and a willingness to collaborate with different teams across the organization.

Aside from technology, we expect you to be a product-oriented problem solver, a good communicator, willing to collaborate with people in and outside of your own team, and keen to bring up issues in a constructive manner to the team and to Wolt at large. We work with high ownership in small teams where each team member works around the whole SW development life cycle. Each and every one of our product team members has a say in where we are going and what solutions we implement.

Next steps

The position will be filled as soon as we find the right person, so make sure to apply as soon as you realize you really, really want to join us!

The compensation will be a negotiable combination of monthly pay and DoorDash RSUs. The latter makes it exceptionally easy to be excited about our company growing and doing well, as youโ€™ll own a piece of the pie.

For any further questions about the position, you can turn to Product+ Talent Acquisition Partner - Severi Kausola (severi.kausola@wolt.com).
